Endoscopic imaging has also been playing an important role in spine surgery for many years because high-resolution intraoperative imaging facilitates minimalized access ports to the operating site. This therefore provides a tool designed to implement concepts for minimally invasive surgery. Alongside the ventral endoscopic approaches to the spinal column, which are mainly used thoracoscopically for fractures and tumors, endoscopy is also being increasingly used for dorsal and lateral approaches in degenerative diseases. Moreover, since the endoscope is used very differently in these techniques, further differentiation was required to compare the various techniques effectively. Techniques that place the endoscope for visualization in the operation tube are designated as endoscopically assisted procedures (e.g. also MED for micro-endoscopic discectomy). Furthermore, full-endoscopic procedures have been developed and standardized in particular over the past 20 years by Richard Wolf GmbH. Endoscopic spine surgery is an advanced technique that enables minimally invasive treatment for conditions such as herniated discs and spinal canal stenosis. This method is gaining popularity both in our country and globally. Endoscopic surgical procedures can be performed using either a single incision (monoportal) or two incisions (biportal). At our facility, we specialize in monoportal endoscopic surgery. In the monoportal approach, a single 8-mm incision is made. WAY SMALLER THAN A PENNY! Patients are typically able to walk and are discharged on the same day. Stitches are removed within 10–15 days after the procedure. This technique causes minimal damage to the bone and soft tissues, resulting in a virtually painless recovery. Patients can quickly return to their daily lives and work.
